Understanding Correlation Between Forex Pairs

| 发表于 半小时前 | 显示全部楼层 |复制链接

Forex pairs are often correlated because they share common currencies and can be affected by the same economic factors. For example, EUR/USD and GBP/USD often move in the same direction because both pairs have USD as the quote currency, although their correlation is not constant.
On the other hand, EUR/USD and USD/CHF can often show an inverse relationship because USD is positioned differently in each pair.
Correlation can be useful when analyzing multiple trades. If several open positions are strongly correlated, the actual exposure may be much larger than it appears from the individual lot sizes.
However, correlation changes over time and can become weaker or even reverse during major economic events, changes in interest-rate expectations, or unusual market conditions. Therefore, traders should treat correlation as an additional analytical tool rather than a fixed rule.
Before opening multiple positions, it is worth checking whether the pairs are positively or negatively correlated and considering the combined exposure and risk.
